Minimalizing My Garden

I woke up this morning, took a shower, and read my Bible. I checked my Facebook page. I’m too cozy to get up and put the roast in the crock pot for dinner, so I’m making another blog post. I’m doing something productive, right? 😀

I’m a big lover of diversity, and that is generally shown in my garden. Depending upon the vegetable, I will usually get between 3-7 varieties of each one. I think it’s fun. However, this year, I’m wanting to simplify as much of my life as possible.

We go to a church a couple of times a week that is nearly 50 minutes away. I go to a weekly Bible study. I home school the kids. Lilly and I are starting to book some local venues to sing at this summer. So I don’t want to overdue the complexity at all. Most veggies, I will be getting ONE variety of. Kale, tomatoes, radishes, cukes, and lettuce will probably be the only exceptions. And then with the kale, radishes, and cukes, I will only be getting two varities. The lettuce and tomatoes are another story. I’ll probably go with three or four varieties of each of those, because of the different types and uses that lettuce and tomatoes have.

I keep saying that I’m going to nail down my decisions, and order the seeds. I’ve yet to even look. I’ve been ruminating though.

Also, this year, I won’t be selling at the market. Everything I grow will be for the family, and if we have some left over after immediate consumption and canning, I’ll take it to the local food banks.

Simplifying. At least that’s the plan.
