The Importance of Family

Family is what my life revolves around.  (And in that, my faith.)  After 20 years, through both dark, rough patches and times of giddy happiness, I’m still very much in love with my husband, and he with me.  He also happens to be my best friend.  We have 5 lovely children, three girls and two boys.  One is now an adult! That seems crazy to me.  The other 4 are growing up rather quickly too.  It’s a different stage in life that I’m still trying to get used to.

I’ve homeschooled my kids since my oldest was in first grade.  The first year was rather hard to adjust to, and there have been a couple of hiccups along the way, but I don’t regret it.  Even with a massive amount of condemnation flung my way over choosing to homeschool, I wouldn’t change my mind about it.  It’s not for everyone, but public school isn’t for everyone either.  To each their own, I say.

One thing our family does is eat together around our table at most meal times.  We have good discussion, and enjoy the food we’ve made.  Sometimes we discuss world events.  Sometimes we discuss faith, or family happenstances.  We talk about our “favorites”, and share memories.  I believe doing this has really made our family strong, because life hasn’t always been a cakewalk for us.  We’ve been through some really rough times together, and it only made us a stronger unit.  I believe that making the effort to eat together has helped this, because with these moments comes communication.

So, this is kind of what I want to do with the “FAMILY” portion of my blog.  Share stories, and invoke  a closer sense of community.  Get to know us.  Tell us about your family, if you want.
